In this 2nd video of the series we continue showing you how to set up your Public Profile at Gravatar.com. Gravatar allows you to have your image appear beside the blog comments you leave on other people's posts.
The Gravatar public profile allows you to add information about you, public images you wish to share, and contact information (Phone #, Skype, etc.), allows you to verify social networks, and share public links such as websites.

Wow – I didn’t know that you could do all of that with Gravatar. I need to get over there and fill in my profile a lot better. Thanks for the info.

Glyna,
Yep… Gravatar is more than just a pretty picture! Cool eh?

Pat and Lorna,
Thanks for hitting me upside the head to update my gravatar account. I had originally grabbed my gravatar account, and uploaded a headshot, but hadn’t done the rest of the steps. It is now fully updated. Keep up the great work.

2010-08-02 @ 2:15 pm
Hey Pat and Lorna
Great tutorial!
I much rather see someone’s gravatar than a default icon whine they leave a comment on my blog.
2010-08-02 @ 6:36 pm
Peter,
A real picture sure does beat an icon any day, doesn’t it? And… it’s cool to be able to put a face to a name… more personal that way!
Thanks,
~ Pat and Lorna
2010-08-02 @ 4:59 pm
Pat & Lorna, Very useful information! There are alot of folks out there that need to watch you tutorial. There are many bloggers that don’t have a Gravatar. I really think that many of them simply don’t know how to add one. Thanks to your great tutorial, people can learn how it’s done. Thanks for the great post! Joseph McDevitt
2010-08-02 @ 6:54 pm
Joseph,
That’s what we thought… if they don’t know how, they won’t be able to put their picture up. Personally, we love it when there are a lot of friendly faces to look at out there.
Thanks,
~ Pat and Lorna
2010-08-02 @ 6:18 pm
Hi Pat & Lorna,
Thanks for all the detailed info about how to set up a Gravatar – it still amazes me how many bloggers still don’t have one – it might be just a simple case of them thinking its too complicated to set up or just not knowing how to set up. 🙂
Christine
2010-08-05 @ 8:57 pm
Christine,
We agree… we’re pretty sure a lot of people just don’t know how to set one up… hopefully this will help a few people get it going.
Thanks!

Hey Pat and Lorna,
Thanks for such an in-depth and well outlined video on taking advantage of the public profile we can create with Gravatar.com. It’s not just a way to have your picture/image appear when you comment on blogs, but it is so much more with the public profile. Verifying and listing all our social media sites on the public profile is a great source of potential new friends and followers. We need to do that promotion for ourselves and our brand in all available spots.
So thanks again, Pat and Lorna, we always learn something new from you!
Dawn and Dave
2010-08-05 @ 9:00 pm
Hey Dave and Dawn,
Yes, Gravatar is definitely more than just a pretty picture. The more places we can set up to connect with others the better. So true… branding and promoting ourselves can happen in so many different places… it’s a great idea to take advantage of as many of them as possible.
Thanks so much for stopping by!
~ Pat and Lorna
2010-08-02 @ 6:46 pm
Belinda,
We find tutorials are so much better for us if there is a recap of the steps to follow at the end, as kind of a wrap-up. We were hoping others would find this beneficial.
Thanks,
~ Pat and Lorna
2010-08-03 @ 8:21 am
Pat and Lorna,
These videos are so helpful when people need to know how to put gravatars on their blogs and how important it is that people put a face to our comments and our work. It is branding at it’s best. Thanks guys.
2010-08-05 @ 9:02 pm
Lori,
Even with all this technology, people still like to see a person’s face. We are truly social beings! And the branding sure doesn’t hurt either… 🙂
Thanks,
~ Pat and Lorna

Wow, this is a very thorough post! I had no idea you could do all this with Gravatar. I am off to set mine up. Thanks for providing such valuable information here, Pat & Lorna!
2010-08-03 @ 7:59 pm
So while I was setting up, it wouldn’t let me add my blog as a verified account. It did everything else. Any thoughts on that? Thanks! 🙂
2010-08-04 @ 5:27 pm
You have to make sure that XML-RPC is turned on for you blog to do the verification. WordPress Dashboard => Settings => Writing => Enable the WordPress, Movable Type, MetaWeblog and Blogger XML-RPC publishing protocols.
2010-08-05 @ 6:25 pm
Wow, thanks so much. I don’t think I’d have figured that one out on my own! All updated…lookin’ good! 🙂
2010-08-03 @ 7:51 pm
This is a really good tutorial. I have been playing around with my gravatar account but didn’t realize it had so much to offer.

You have by far the best and most comprehensive info on Gravatar I have seen. You have shown how to put your Gravatar on Steroids. You also have sparked a couple ideas for our continued branding efforts, so thank you.

Hi Pat and Lorna,
Thanks for this! I was already signed up with Gravatar, but I had not filled in my profile or verified my connections. I had no idea this service was so important or useful. I just spent 10 minutes there completing my profile. And BTW, really fun vid with Jimmy Kimmel.

Thanks you guys. It is helpful to have people like yourselves on top of different aspects of the game. When we share with each other we can all learn. It is like having an army out there learning what the new things are and then sharing the intel with one another. Not many people have the time to keep track of it all. I appreciate the tutorial very much.

Hey Pat and Lorna:
Thanks so much for the great information on gravatars. You guys are truly good at what you do. I was wondering if adding your website in the public profile would also link your gravatar to your web address?? I wanted to get my gravatar to appear by my web address in the web address box. Can you direct me how to accomplish that? I’ve been searching for that answer for a while now.
I greatly appreciate your help.
Thanks
Valarie
2010-12-09 @ 11:18 am
Valarie, the way Gravatar works is by using your email address. You would need to use the same email address on you website as you are using with Gravatar.
2010-12-14 @ 8:02 am
I never knew about Gravatar until I’ve seen your video.. Really good tutorial. Thank you for sharing this information.

Good day, POST consider a person, in the event you come to Romania you’ve got a light beer coming from me personally: ) Regards!
2011-02-13 @ 1:45 pm
Hi guys,
Appreciate your blogging about this! You have given me the direction to go! I’ve walked through the procedure, but the last comment I left on your other blog did not have my gravatar on it. I clicked on the “view your profile” link and I have a gravatar profile, but apparently it’s not showing up here. It’s not letting me put my own WordPress blog on it, either. Ok, enough of this! I’ve spent about an hour and a half trying to make it work. I think I’m done fooling with it for the day : ) Thanks for your blog, though. At least now I know where it is and hopefully what to do!
2011-02-13 @ 2:03 pm

Don’t you think we have enough public profiles and we are complicating our lives with each and every account we create on different websites? Don’t get me wrong, I like gravatars but why do we need a profile on gravatar.com?
