Twitter… Yes, It is a Bonus for Your Business Too

Yes, Twitter is a Social Networking site, and is a place where people go to connect and build relationships. And… it is also a place that can boost the traffic to your site and reach more prospective clients and customers.

So… just to give you a perspective on how this can work, we've come up with 7 reasons how Twitter can help you in your business:

Reason 1 – It's Social – One of the rules in a Social Network (SN) is to be 80% social and 20% informative. Twitter is one SN where your current customers and potential customers can learn to “know, like and trust” you. When you are being helpful with your posts and articles you are also being social, and as you are being social you are also marketing and informing.

Reason 2 – Extends Your Reach – Extending your reach means to get your marketing message and influence in front of as many eyes and warm bodies as possible. When you tweet your posts and articles on Twitter, you are not only reaching those who are following you, you are also reaching everyone that follows each person who follows you. We call that Compounding Social Networking and that can happen when someone Re-Tweets (RT) your information to their SN group.

Reason 3 – It’s Present Marketing – In many ways Twitter is like Instant Marketing Messaging – you get an instant response from many people who are using Twitter at that point in time. Many internet marketers are beginning to notice that their Twitter list is many times more responsive than their email list.

Reason 4 – Gives You Expert Status – Mentioning your posts and articles and using them to answer questions increases your expert status in the eyes of the tweeting public. And with some of the latest tracking services you can find out what people are responding to. Because this is a new frontier, there is still time for the majority of you to get in and establish your expert status in your niche.

Reason 5 – Spread The Word – If you send out more than one email message a day to your list, people will unsubscribe in droves. With Twitter you can send out multiple 140-character tweets (which contain marketing and informational tips) in one day. In fact, we encourage you to, because your followers are on at different times throughout the day. And don’t forget they are also on different time zones as well. People can choose not to follow you, but we have found those numbers to be quite low. Of course, there is a happy medium… and there is such a thing as too much… just remember the social side.

Reason 6 – Be Helpful – "People don't care how much you know–until they know how much you care." ~ John Maxwell. So when you are having conversations in Twitter and you see a question where one of your posts or articles could help, you are being very helpful to someone when you refer them to your information. How's that for increasing your "know, like and trust" factor?

Reason 7 – It's Automatic – You can set up your blog to automatically tweet your blog post titles to Twitter. If you have an EzineArticles.com account, you can also automatically repurpose your brand new articles onto Twitter as well. So when your blog post and/or article is published, it will automatically show up on Twitter without you having to lift a finger. That is magic!

So get to know people on Twitter, have them get to know you… the social side is a blast. And remember, help them out with your expertise and point them to your valuable information or services. After all… that's what business is about… helping others to succeed.

hey Guys – nice article – must admit to a love hate thing with Twitter! i like the idea of 80 – 20 – actually with facebook its more like 95% social and 5% business related.

The quality of any social networking site is related to the degree of dialogue and opportunity for reciprocation – personally I refuse to ever send mass automated messages except via an autoresponder service to an opt in list – the value of recievinig a non business direct comment really resonates – the fact that someone would take the trouble to send a message regarding a blog etc is 100 x more memorable than a 'hey dude check out my blah blag…" lol.

A few years ago, just for fun, I mashed Flickr with a few Twitter services and made a real time travel log with maps and pictures.

All I had to do was take a pic with my phone and send it to Flickr, the website would automatically update maps and display my picture all in real time.

  20. Great post Pat and Lorna! I learned from your post and from some of the comments. With respect to emails and emailing your 'list' … your social media network is just like your list. In fact, a large number of the younger generation don't even use email anymore. They consider it to be 'snail mail' compared to instant messaging, text messaging and keeping up with friends on social media platforms. Makes you wonder if email and auto-responders will become obsolete in favour of the 'instant' methods of communication.

This post reinforced a lot of the things I've observed about Twitter and given me some ideas for using it more effectively to market my book. I think the most important aspect of Twitter is the personal touch. I like the 80/20 rule, and it seems to come naturally as you build friendships with your tweeps. At least it does for me. I've spent time chatting and made lots of friends, and that has been the best part.

It seems most of the posts that appear on my Twitter page are marketing stuff. Obviously, I have quite a bit of automated marketing that automatically posts on my page, as well, but I've also worked hard to find sources of good information that posts through Twitterfeed. 44. Pat and Lorna,
What a great post. I also enjoy Twitter. I love retweeting others' uplifting quotes (haven't done much of that lately; just reminded myself to get back to doing that). I love finishing an article or blog and tweeting about it. it goes viral instantly. Then I am always surprised when someone follows up with a comment on my FB page.

My favorite of your twitter stints was the one with Jimmy Kimmel. You actually got him competing with you two – and he lost! That was a hoot!

    Erica,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Twitter and what you like about it. We also enjoy reading and retweeting uplifting quotes (second only to connecting with very cool people, like yourself!).
Our time with Jimmy Kimmel was so much fun! We had a blast and a good laugh.

    Thanks,

    Hi Pat and Lorna

That's a great tip about Tweeting at different times of the day. I hadn't really thought about there being different people on at different times!

Thanks for the reminder, will definitely be on and off more times.

    Thanks

    Sue,

Different people, different habits… or time zones. Who knows, even though statistics point to the busiest times of day, perhaps the late night infomercial types are the biggest market :)

    Thanks!

    Hi Pat & Lorna,

Great article! I've had a twitter account for some time now but haven't used it a whole lot but I'm going to start using it more. It's funny I came across this article because I was at a meeting last week talking with someone that "swear" by twitter and he's going to give me some pointers too.

    Keep the great content coming!

    To your continued success,

    Pat and Lorna,

I love how you point out methods we can use to not only drive traffic to our blog posts, but also to provide value to our Twitter followers. Many people are using Twitter to communicate and market, but it's a great twist to search out questions that are answered by your posts, and add links. What a great strategy, and a total win-win…thanks for the suggestion!

    Theuns,

We also use Tweet Later… it is great to have some things set up in advance. Although the best part of Twitter is connecting "live" with other people online.

    Thanks,
