Motivation, Mindset and Making It Happen
Have you ever wanted to do something, but have never done it? You've told yourself you really want to do it, but there's always been a reason not to follow through.
So… let's discuss making things happen, amazing support and how important mindset really is.
I (Lorna) have always wanted to enter a Figures Competition (like bodybuilding – with a little less muscle definition). For a few years I've been saying I wanted to do it, but there has always been something that “got in the way”. There were scheduled activities for the kids, injuries, didn't start training early enough, etc., etc. Basically, plain old excuses.
However, this summer I committed to the training and the diet (death by chicken) and competed in a Figures Competition.
It was a phenomenal experience… and the coolest part of it was the amazing support I got from my sweetheart, Pat. I'm pretty sure the audience appreciated how much he supported me as well. Watch and listen to this very cool moment…
So now I wonder why I waited so long to do this. And it brings awareness to this question: what things do we put off, things that would be amazing experiences if only we would just make it happen?
Not only did I have an amazing experience, but a fourth-place finish was like icing on the cake. Being the first competition I entered, and considering the massive amount of things I still needed to learn, that result was great!
In Alberta the association that holds these competitions is the Alberta Bodybuilding Association they are a class act all the way and are run like most associations with volunteers. Here are the 2010 Muscle Beach Fall Classic Results and I placed fourth in Tier 1 Figure Short.
The other competitors were all friendly, helpful, supportive, nervous and very hungry 😉
Some big learning experiences for me were:
1) Even though I thought I was dark, I was still very white!
2) There were no egos backstage
3) Bring food to competitions
4) The volunteers were amazing
5) Even thou the event was a “Judged” event, I entered for the experience
Even the awards ceremony had a moment we all felt was very touching. It's so cool that the people who hosted the competition appreciate how important family is…
In the bodybuilding world there is so much focus on training principles, nutrition, supplements, calorie counts, sodium reduction, fat/carb/protein ratios, etc. It can be confusing and take a lot of time and energy to manage.
Watching the posing routine of the guest poser Kai Greene… we figured for sure he had it all down to a science. However, we were totally blown away with what he said in the interview that followed his routine. To hear someone who has been so successful at his craft talk about what's really important in getting to the top was a real eye-opener. Kai has some great insight in his interview at 5:49 in the video below. Well worth the time to listen to these wise words… Thank you Kai!
So… if there's something you've always wanted to do… GO FOR IT!! Find those who support you, get into the right mindset, and just make it happen. There's so much to experience… get out there and discover it.
Oh… and we'd love it if you would share in the comment area below what you are going to make happen in your life.

Life is meant to be experienced. We can say we’ll do things and have great intentions, but it’s not until we make it happen that we can truly experience it.
What is it in your life that you want to do… to make happen?
Thanks,

There’s really no better time to do something than RIGHT NOW, isn’t there? Congrats on your accomplishment! It’s amazing what can be done when we decide to do it and just DO IT!

Awesome, awesome, awesome! …and congrats!
I can completely identify with what you did with getting in shape. I didn’t compete on stage as you did but I did follow through with Bill Phillips Body For Life Program and achieved the results I was looking for. All my life the 6 pack abs avoided me but after “dedicating” myself to his program, I had them finally at the age of 32 😉
Kai’s message is very powerful in the video and I found myself nodding my head while he was speaking. Mindset, goals and not getting caught up in the little things that don’t really matter is something we all need to be reminded of, especially as internet marketers.
Congrats again Lorna and Pat way to support your wife!

Wow Lorna, congratulations on a great achievement. The thought of going up on stage like that would terrify me!
Of course having support of your friends and family and being surrounded by like-minded people with the same passion and interests helps immensily – a bit like our own Tribe of course!

Congratulations Lorna!
That is really really amazing. I’m motivated to try and lose weight…don’t think I’ll be entering any contests or anything. Great job.

Congratulations Lorna . . . what a wonderful example of mindset, motivation and what goal setting can help one accomplish.
I admire your determination!
I’m challenged by weight management concerns. I’ve procrastinated this entire year! But you have inspired my to set goals and get started.
Thanks,

Susan,
Thank you! I found it amazing how determined I could be once I had a big enough reason to make it happen.
All the best!

Debbie,
We love your ‘let’s pretend’ game. It sounds like fun and you’re right… if we ‘pretend’ enough then soon it becomes a reality.
Thanks!

Wow what an accomplishment Lorna. I can tell that Pat was so proud of you. When you set your mind to something it’s incredible what you can do, and it is a huge boast when you have the support of your spouse and loved ones. Thanks so much for sharing this.

Michael,
Without Pat’s support and encouragement, it would not have been the same. It’s amazing how much difference moral support from those we love will bring us.
Thanks,

Hi Pat and Lorna,
interesting subject.
We recently had a show with two over 70 year olds who were up on stage in competition.
Muscles are not my kind of thing. I like a body in natural proportions.
I take my hat of though to the determination of people who are into body building.
To your success!
