Abundance Vs. Scarcity… It’s All About Our Mindset

Most people believe there are finite resources from which we all share… and that the more we have, the less others have (or vice versa). This scarcity thinking is holding us back as individuals and as a society.

What we find truly important in life, is to replace this scarcity mindset with that of abundance. And that is what it truly is… a mindset.

From the side of scarcity, people say things like:
“I can’t afford it.”
“I just don’t have any options.”
“I never have enough time to pursue my ideal life.”

Abundant thinking says:
“How can I afford this?”
“I know I have unlimited options, I just need to find a way to realize them.”
“How can I create more space so I have time to pursue my passions?”

Basically, it is how you look at the world… scarcity is limited, and abundance is limitless.

It’s our choice… to view life abundantly, to think and act abundantly and eliminate our fear of loss and scarcity. We do have a choice… and that’s what it’s all about… choice. It’s up to us as to what our lives are like… vibrantly abundant or minimized by the fear of not having enough, and that others have what we want but cannot have ourselves.

The path to overcoming the myth of scarcity is for us to realize and accept the abundant nature of our environment and of our potential as creative beings. It is up to us… we create the reality of abundance or the fear of lack and scarcity.

How perfect that this is the Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada. This is the time of year when people focus on what they have to be thankful for… they focus on the abundance they have in their lives.

Our challenge… make this thankful, grateful, abundance-focused mindset one that lasts all year long. Then watch what starts to show up in your life… it’s amazing what a shift in your mindset can create.

If you’re already there… in a mindset of abundance… fantastic! Keep it up and help to show others what we can accomplish in our lives and in our world when we focus on abundance.

  1. So true. I began building my business at a time when things were really bad financially. Around that time I began studying the law of attraction. I really had to reprogram my thinking and words.

Instead of saying I can’t afford it, I started saying I don’t choose to spend money on that right now.

  2. I couldn’t agree more. I struggle with this all the time. It’s so easy to think of how bad the economy is and how business is just not out there, and really it is, if you can just think positively and find a way to get what you want. I am reading a good sales book and in this chapter he talks about “don’t ask yourself how you feel”, take action and you’ll find a way. So profound.

Definitely… people like to have excuses on why they can’t get what they want… like the economy, etc. If we can all just get over these “mental roadblocks”… the world is our oyster… and an abundant one at that!

  3. Hi Pat & Lorna, another great blog post. The mind is such a powerful tool. If only we used it to our advantage. I remember being in charge of a large customer service department and I continuously brought to their attention to be positive. When a customer calls with a complaint you can make this persons life a lot better by being positive and thinking in terms of abundance! Thanks for bringing this back to the forefront of my memory.

That’s a great point… having an abundant mindset is something you get and then forget about. It is something we focus on and work to strengthen every day.

It’s interesting to listen to people’s comments in daily conversation and to notice their scarcity mindset. An abundant mindset starts with awareness… and so many people are not yet aware. We can only lead by example.

I couldn’t agree more – it’s all about mindset. We all see what we WANT to see – it’s a choice. You can either see problems as opportunities for growth and improvement or as reasons to give up.

I like the saying (not sure where/whom it came from but…) “there’s a difference between being broke and being broke-minded” – HUGE difference! In business, you run into people all time who are broke-minded and this is very unfortunate because it’s when you can’t afford it that you really can’t afford NOT to.

  10. That is just it, people, well most people, are so focused on what everyone else is thinking and doing.

What do they have? How did they get it? That’s not fair! All this focus and energy on everything but what is directly related to their dreams, income, and success.

There is just so much emphasis on image and what everyone else thinks we dont stop to realize this is our life, there is more than enough to go around, and I am going to do what ever it takes to make it happen!

Thanks for sharing. Have a great day!

  11. Pat and Lorna. We all have a choice to make in life. Are we going to live a life of abundance where all things are possible, or are we going to live a life of limits and “can’t do’s”. The choice one makes determines (in most cases) what comes next. Thanks for the reminder. Happy Thanksgiving! Scott Pollov

  26. Hi Pat abd Lorna,

I don’t think success will come if a person doesn’t have an abundant mindset. I think “abundant thought” is one of the most difficult obstacles to overcome when starting out. I’ve heard so many stories of beginning entrepreneurs when they struggled and were lost and isolated with nothing to show that would be considered “abundant.” If a person doesn’t have abundance, sometimes it is hard for the mind to imagine the possibilities.

Also, some people can’t get over the notion that for some reason they are “less than” other people and don’t deserve abundance. It takes a lot of time, perseverance, and honesty to get out of the scarcity mode and make the switch.

When we can truly love ourselves for who we are and see that we have value to offer other people, the abundant thoughts sneak their way in and flow like a river!

Thank you for a thought provoking post!
