So true. I began building my business at a time when things were really bad financially. Around that time I began studying the law of attraction. I really had to reprogram my thinking and words.

Instead of saying I can’t afford it, I started saying I don’t choose to spend money on that right now.

      Melodie,

That’s a great phrase to use… it implies that it’s your choice not to purchase the item now, and that you may choose to purchase it in the future.

      Thanks,

I couldn’t agree more. I struggle with this all the time. It’s so easy to think of how bad the economy is and how business is just not out there, and really it is, if you can just think positively and find a way to get what you want. I am reading a good sales book and in this chapter he talks about “don’t ask yourself how you feel”, take action and you’ll find a way. So profound.

    Regards,
    Mike

      Mike,

Definitely… people like to have excuses on why they can’t get what they want… like the economy, etc. If we can all just get over these “mental roadblocks”… the world is our oyster… and an abundant one at that!

      Thanks,

Hi Pat & Lorna, another great blog post. The mind is such a powerful tool. If only we used it to our advantage. I remember being in charge of a large customer service department and I continuously brought to their attention to be positive. When a customer calls with a complaint you can make this persons life a lot better by being positive and thinking in terms of abundance! Thanks for bringing this back to the forefront of my memory.

    Denise,

That’s a great point… having an abundant mindset is something you get and then forget about. It is something we focus on and work to strengthen every day.

It’s interesting to listen to people’s comments in daily conversation and to notice their scarcity mindset. An abundant mindset starts with awareness… and so many people are not yet aware. We can only lead by example.

    Thanks,

    Hi Pat and Lorna,

I love this article. It is so true that there is an abundance of everything … we just need to tap into it. I completely agree that it is a mindset. Practicing gratitude on a daily basis is one of the more powerful ways to tap into abundance.
It really is a choice. Great post!!

    Hi Pat and Lorna,

I couldn’t agree more – it’s all about mindset. We all see what we WANT to see – it’s a choice. You can either see problems as opportunities for growth and improvement or as reasons to give up.

I like the saying (not sure where/whom it came from but…) “there’s a difference between being broke and being broke-minded” – HUGE difference! In business, you run into people all time who are broke-minded and this is very unfortunate because it’s when you can’t afford it that you really can’t afford NOT to.

    Excellent post! Thanks, Laura

That is just it, people, well most people, are so focused on what everyone else is thinking and doing.

What do they have? How did they get it? That’s not fair! All this focus and energy on everything but what is directly related to their dreams, income, and success.

There is just so much emphasis on image and what everyone else thinks we dont stop to realize this is our life, there is more than enough to go around, and I am going to do what ever it takes to make it happen!

Thanks for sharing. Have a great day!

      Joe,

Thanks so much for pointing out how so many people put their focus on image… on keeping up with the “Jones'”. Focusing on abundance and how there is so much for all of us is truly a better way to look at the world.

Pat and Lorna. We all have a choice to make in life. Are we going to live a life of abundance where all things are possible, or are we going to live a life of limits and “can’t do’s”. The choice one makes determines (in most cases) what comes next. Thanks for the reminder. Happy Thanksgiving! Scott Pollov

      2010-10-19 @ 10:02 pm

      Scott,

You’re so right… it’s all about choices. Abundance or limits… it seems to easy to see… but not always easy for some to understand the choice we do have. So many people get caught up in “life”… and how society sees our world.

      Thanks,
      ~ Pat and Lorna

Pat and Lorna, You hit the nail on the head. Our success in life is all about attitude. If we put our mind to it and have confidence that we can succeed, then we usually do. That is my experience, at least. Great motivational post.

Great post, thanks so much for sharing it. I totally agree, we are the weak link in our success or the cause of it, depending upon our beliefs. I like the metaphor of the buffet. It’s all there laid out for you, but if you don’t stand up and take what you want, you’ll go hungry!

This is the foundation of poverty vs. prosperity. Mindset.

It’s also the difference in people who are fit, and people who aren’t.
It’s the difference of having a loving family and one that isn’t.
It’s also the foundation of meeting all the bad drivers on the road vs. meeting the good ones.

    Abundance Mindset.
    Health Mindset.
    Loving Mindset.
I have no idea the name of the mindset that meets all the bad drivers out there.

    Hi Pat & Lorna,
I love your article. It is so true!! I am reading “Think and Grow Rich” and after 40 years of negativity in my life it can be difficult at times to remember to be positive. I’m practicing my self talk and rephrasing my thoughts to “there is an abundance and I’m going to figure out how to make it happen.” Thank you so much for reminding me that I DO have a choice. “If it has to be, it’s up to me!”

“Our challenge… make this thankful, grateful, abundance-focused mindset one that lasts all year long.”, is what Wallace D Wattle called gratitude, in “The Science of Getting Rich. Making this last all year long is really important, as gratitude alone can prevent one from falling into the error of thinking of the supply as limited. This is a life altering posts, thanks.

    Hi Pat abd Lorna,

I don’t think success will come if a person doesn’t have an abundant mindset. I think “abundant thought” is one of the most difficult obstacles to overcome when starting out. I’ve heard so many stories of beginning entrepreneurs when they struggled and were lost and isolated with nothing to show that would be considered “abundant.” If a person doesn’t have abundance, sometimes it is hard for the mind to imagine the possibilities.

Also, some people can’t get over the notion that for some reason they are “less than” other people and don’t deserve abundance. It takes a lot of time, perseverance, and honesty to get out of the scarcity mode and make the switch.

When we can truly love ourselves for who we are and see that we have value to offer other people, the abundant thoughts sneak their way in and flow like a river!

Thank you for a thought provoking post!
